Getting started
Zip is a buy-now, pay-later payment method available in Australia.
To get started with Zip, you will require an account. You can reach out to your customer success manager to start this process. Your agreement with Zip will cover the products that you may sell and your merchant fee amount.
When you receive your API key and API password, you’ll be able to set up Zip as a payment method with these details, along with the merchant fee you have agreed with Zip.
For more information, read our article on configuring your payment methods.
Rules
Once Zip is enabled on your marketplace, you will need to configure the rules around which products will be enabled for Zip payments.
The platform provides the following options:
Advert type
Zip is currently only available for product adverts.
Taxonomy
You must identify the types of products on your marketplace that will be eligible for Zip payments. To do this, you can simply enable Zip for each of the eligible taxonomies (categories).
- In admin, access Categories → Taxonomy
- Navigate to the taxonomy item that you want to enable for Zip payments and select edit.
- Next, you will need to toggle the option ‘Allow Zip payments for products in this taxonomy.’
Remember, only products within the enabled taxonomy will be eligible. The rule doesn’t automatically flow through to child taxonomies. So, for example, if you enabled Zip on Bikes, but also wanted to have it enabled on Mountain Bikes (a child of Bikes), then you would have to enable it separately on the Mountain Bikes taxonomy.
Customers who purchase multiple items in a single order will only be allowed to purchase using Zip if all products in their order are eligible.
Sellers
Sellers will incur the merchant fee associated with Zip payments, so it may not be a viable option for some. Please note, sellers will be enabled for Zip payments by default. To help, we have provided the option for Zip to be enabled or disabled for individual sellers.
You can do this when modifying a seller's account:
- Find the seller using the Members report
- Select the edit option
- Scroll down to the E-commerce section, make sure it's enabled, and select the Zip payments enabled’ option.
Customers who purchase from multiple sellers will only be eligible to pay using Zip if all sellers accept Zip payments.
Price
There are no order or value limits when choosing ZIP as a payment method. Zip, however, will decide whether a customer is approved for certain amounts (eg, orders over $3000) and might decline payment should a customer be ineligible for it.
Customer Experience
Customers will be able to see if Zip is available for an individual product on the product page. This means that the seller of this item and its category allow Zip payments.
Customer checkout
Customers will be able to choose Zip as a payment option at checkout for all eligible orders.
Once they choose to pay using Zip and select the ‘Pay now’ button, they will be redirected to Zip’s login screen to complete the transaction.
Order recording
Zip payments function similarly to any other payment provider. Transactions will display in your payment events report as `zip` in both the payment type and gateway.
Sellers and Customers will see Zip displayed as the payment method across their invoices.
Landing page
Zip requires marketplaces to configure their landing page, available for buyers. In order to do that follow our knowledge base articles explaining how to create a static page on the platform and refer to https://zip-online.api-docs.io/v1/conversion-optimisation/landing-page for more details regarding Zip’s requirements.
