The sort by Seller Tier functionality is meant to allow result ordering by a tier classification added to the Seller.
This will sort results for both category browse & term search by:
- Featured Results
- Tier of the Seller of the Item
- Relevance
Adding Tiers
To add a Tier tag to a seller please head to Manage Sellers in the administration console. Find the Seller you wish to edit and open them up. Scroll down to the ‘Tags’ field.
In the Tags field you will need to add the tier value for each seller (this can also be mass loaded with sellers via the csv mass load).
Marketplacer allows flexibility around how the tier is named but requires that the value Tier # must be in the tag. The number (#) must be in the range of 1-1,000,000,000. The text in the tag must be Tier (upper case T, lower case ier, space, number).
Feel free to can add your own business description before or after the Tier # value, for example:
Platinum Tier 1
Gold Tier 2
Tier 1 Diamond
Bottom Tier 999999999 Coal
Tier 131
Really Awesome Tier 42 User
When a tier tag is added or updated on a seller the search index is updated real time to update the tier values on that sellers’ products. If the seller has a large number of products please be aware that re-indexing can take a short period of time, resulting in the change not being immediate.
Enabling Tier Based Results
For the entire site
In Admin > Configuration > Customisation Settings, you will find a heading named ‘Search’. Scroll down under that heading to find the ‘Override default advert sort order’ drop down and select ‘Featured > Tier > Relevance’ to enable Tier based sorting for the entire site.
For a single category
To enable or disable Tier based sorting for a single category go to Admin > Categorisation > Categories. Navigate to the category you wish to change the setting for. Click the pencil icon to the right to edit the category. Scroll down to the ‘Override default advert sort order’ drop down and select your desired option.
Deeper Explanation
Result set – the set of items returned which either match the search term or are in the category.
First, any Featured items will be moved to the beginning of the results (within the featured items they will order by Tier then by Relevance within Tier)
Second, remaining items will be ordered by tier.
Third, within each tier value multiple results will be ordered by relevance.
Example:
Say the user searched for “Lamp”. We will say that:
‘Lamp’ is more relevant than ‘Headlamp’
Results could be:
Lamp A, Featured, Tier 1 Seller
Headlamp, Featured, Tier 2 Seller
Lamp B, Featured, Tier 2 Seller
Lamp C, Not Featured, Tier 1 Seller
Headlamp D, Not Featured, Tier 1 Seller
Headlamp D, Not Featured, Tier 2 Seller
Lamp C, Not Featured, Tier 3 Seller
Note how Featured items show at the top, sorted by Tier then by Relevance
Then items are grouped by Seller Tier and ordered by Relevance within each Tier.
