As part of signing up, you need to point a domain to the Marketplacer platform. How to do this depends on the company who hosts your domain. Note that we are not able to log in to your third-party domain account on your behalf; further support can be obtained through the company who hosts your domain.
Domain registration and DNS
Domain registration refers to the process of purchasing a particular domain (e.g. marketplacer.com) from a reseller. Popular resellers include GoDaddy, Netregistry, Crazy Domains, Namecheap and Verisign.
DNS hosting is a separate but related product to domain registration. Most registrars offer DNS hosting as an optional service for domains registered through them. However, you are not obligated to use your registrar's DNS hosting service. Read more about DNS here.
Set up your existing domain to connect to Marketplacer
To access the Marketplacer platform, you need to edit your DNS settings to point to the correct server. When you receive your setup guide, the correct server name for your site will be provided. You will also need to point a subdomain at our staging server which you can use as a testing environment and one to our development environment.
Step 1: Log in to the account you have with your domain provider
Step 2: Find the DNS settings for the domain you wish to use. This will probably be in your account administration panel, domain management section or DNS configuration section.
Step 3: Edit your production CNAME record to point to the specified IP address
Step 4: In the Admin portal, you need to:
- Edit or create a CNAME record
- Enter www as the name of the record
- Enter the production server name as the destination for the CNAME record.
- Save the CNAME Record (click Save, Add Record or similar).
i.e. www CNAME to domainname.marketplacer.com
Contact your domain provider if you need further assistance.
Note: It might take up to 48 hours for your domain to point to your Marketplacer site. If you have problems or need help setting your third-party domain, you can reach out to your provider.
