You can define keywords or alternative phrases to improve search results and help customers find the right brands or categories more easily. This is especially useful when shoppers use common misspellings or informal terms in their searches.
For example, if a customer searches for "Doc Martins" but the brand is listed as "Dr Martins", no suggestions would normally appear. By adding "Doc Martins" as a keyword for the "Dr Martins" brand, the system can return relevant results for both terms.
Assign an alternative keyword to an existing category
- Sign in to the Operator portal.
- Navigate to CATEGORISATION > Categories.
- Find the category that you want to add a search phrase for and click edit (pencil icon).
- In the Alternative search terms field, specify up to five words or phrases.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Update Category to save changes.
These alternative terms are saved against the taxonomy. They’re included in the GraphQL data, so your site can use them in search results as needed.
If you want to add an alternative keyword to a brand, follow the same steps but navigate to Brands instead of Categories.
