Marketplacer allows sellers to declare non-registration for Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Australia or the equivalent international tax, avoiding unnecessary tax collection.
In Australia, businesses must register for GST based on specified criteria by the Australian Tax Office under federal law. For the latest information on categories mandating registration for Goods and Services Tax (GST), refer to this ATO webpage.
Registering for GST is optional if a business doesn’t fit into specified categories. If a business opts to register, it typically must remain registered for at least 12 months.
Which seller portal am I using?
Two versions of the seller portal exist, differing in appearance and menu structure. The icon in the top right-hand corner of your seller portal will tell you which instructions you need:

Change your GST status as a seller on Seller portal 2.0
By default, the Are you registered for GST? option is enabled. If a seller is not registered for GST, they can uncheck this box and GST will not be charged to the customer.
- Log in to the seller portal.
- Click on the user icon on the upper right and select Account Settings.
- Under the Store Information tab, toggle the Are you registered for GST? setting off.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Save changes.
Change your GST status as a seller on the legacy seller portal
- Log in to the seller portal.
- Click on the three-dot menu on the upper right and select Account Settings.
- Under the Your information section, uncheck the My business is registered for GST? box.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Update Details.
Note: The examples provided may not accurately represent the registration status of the businesses mentioned.
Disabling the GST setting results in a $0.00 GST sum for the total, and GST is not applied to shipping when a customer adds an offering to the cart. This declaration takes precedence over other specific sales taxes for certain categories. Learn more.
If the setting is disabled, and a customer buys from a non-GST registered seller along with a GST-registered one, only the applicable GST for the latter will be charged.
The toggle is hidden for US or Canada-based marketplaces, which use their own tax system.
In the Seller Portal > Order History or the Sales Report, you will see a $0 sum for GST in the invoice, ready for you to authorize dispatch.
There is also now a column in the Admin > Members > Member Database page, titled "Registered for GST" enabling a quick check of any particular seller.
