As a connected operator, you can create, edit, and delete catalog rules in the Operator Portal. Catalog rules allow you to set validation requirements for products before they can progress through vetting or be published on your marketplace.
Create a Catalog Rule
- Sign in to the Operator Portal.
- Go to ADVERTS > Catalog Rules.
- Click + Create new rule.
- In the Create a new rule panel, select values for these fields:
- Attribute – for example, product description, SKU, or price.
- Condition – such as greater than, equal to, contain, or present.
- Value – the threshold or required value for the condition.
- Add categories (optional) – choose one or more categories where the rule applies. Refer to this article to know more.
- Rule outcome – choose Warning (products remain online but flagged) or Unpublish (products that fail are taken offline). Refer to the Impact of Catalog Rules on Existing Products section to know more.
- Optionally, modify the default error message.
Note: The default error message is based on the values you selected for Attribute, Condition, and Value, but you can edit this text to better suit your marketplace. - Click Create rule. A confirmation message appears: “Rule has been successfully created!”.
Edit or Delete a Catalog Rule
- To edit a rule, click the pencil icon in its row.
- To delete a rule, click the delete icon in its row.
Impact of Catalog Rules on Existing Products
If you add or edit a catalog rule that affects products already in the vetting queue, you can view these errors in Products > Product vetting, under the Meet rules? column. You can also filter products by catalog rule errors.
For products and variants already displayable, the outcome depends on the Rule outcome you selected:
Warning
-
- Products can be saved but will show catalog rule errors.
- If a product was previously offline, it will not go online or enter vetting until the errors are fixed.
- If a product was previously online, it will remain online (it won’t be taken offline).
Unpublish
-
- If the product was online, it would be unpublished and taken offline.
- If it was offline, it cannot go online or enter vetting until the errors are fixed.
