These are the fields in the New Option Type page and their corresponding descriptions:
-
Name: The value you enter in this field can only be seen by admin users, which is the name displayed when selecting which feature or variant to add to your category. We recommend you be more descriptive with the name of the option type of the variant or features.
Example: Dog kennel material or dog kennel size. -
Presentation: Presentation is the name of the option type displayed in the product creation panel and on the refine search box on the site's front end. Because it has the category as context for the feature or variant, it is fine to be not as descriptive.
Example:
Name: Dog kennel material
Presentation: Material - Kind: Select if this option type represents a color or size. If it gives information for neither of those, select Other. Google Merchant uses this.
-
Optional: If you toggle this field, the sellers are not required to fill the option type out to list their product.
Note: This field is only applicable if you are not using the Marketplacer front-end. For more information on configuring optional option types, click here. - Premium: Some option types are more relevant to users than other fields in the refine search box. When you switch the Premium toggle, the option type you created appears higher up in the refine search box on the site's front end.
- Show Options in Site Search: When you switch this toggle off, the option you created is removed from the refine search bar on the front end for users when they refine the search.
- Description: When your option type is not self-explanatory, we suggest you provide information in the Description field. The description appears under the option type when a seller places a product.
- You can select one from the Purpose section:
-
Feature or Variant: To distinguish whether an option type must be created as a feature or as a variant, assess how the product is advertised and sold.
For example, dog kennels. Mostly, kennels are made of different materials that are listed as separate products. However, within the product, you can select from various sizes. In this case, material is a feature, because the customer might want to refine the results by the kennel material, but will not have to select a specific material when they enter the product into their cart. At the same time, size can be a variant, because different sizes of the kennel are listed within the one product and must be selected when adding the product to their cart.
You can also set up products so that there is more than one variant per category such as size and color could be variants for kennels. We recommend that you add three variants for one product category. Any option types that are set up as features and variants must have an answer assigned to them when creating a product. - Free Text Field: This is an option type that buyers cannot search by, but which is displayed within the product in the features section, for example, dog’s Name. Because this field is so specific, it is a free text field so that the seller or admin user can enter their response rather than selecting from a dropdown list. This is not a required field.
- Drop Down Field: This option type is displayed within the product in the features section. This is not a required field. Instead of typing in this field, the seller or admin user selects from a previously set up dropdown list, for example, number of windows in a kennel.
-
Feature or Variant: To distinguish whether an option type must be created as a feature or as a variant, assess how the product is advertised and sold.
