MPay, Marketplacer's automated payout solution powered by Airwallex, determines how payouts are represented in your Remittance report and on individual remittance advices. This article explains how the operator payout model works, what each line item on your remittance advice means, and what your sellers see on theirs.
Learn more about MPay.
Before you begin
- Your marketplace must have MPay enabled.
- You must have an Operator role in the Operator Portal.
- The information in this article applies only to invoices and refunds processed through MPay. Orders paid out via a manual process continue to display separately.
How the operator payout model works
MPay pays you out of the escrow (holding) account in the same flow that pays your sellers. Because of this, your operator entity appears in the Remittance report as a payable party, listed alongside your sellers with its own remittance advices.
This gives you a single view of every payout flowing through the marketplace — seller payouts, operator commission payouts, refunds, and fees — all in one report.
MPay events in Remittance Actions
Every time a transaction is processed through MPay, an MPay event is written to the Remittance Actions section of the associated remittance advice. Each event includes a payment ID that corresponds to the payout.
Use the payment ID when:
- Reconciling a payout against your account activity.
- Troubleshooting a specific payout with Marketplacer Support.
Reading your operator remittance advice
When MPay processes a payout to your operator bank account, a remittance advice appears under your operator entity in the Remittance report. Depending on your marketplace configuration, it can include any of the following line items:
- Commissions for order
- MPay operator payout margin on invoice (if applicable)
- MPay operator payout fee on invoice (if applicable)
- Refund for invoice amendment
- Collection fee for deposit (if applicable)
Commissions for order
Your commission is calculated per order, not per invoice. When MPay processes a deposit reconciliation, funds for that order in the holding account are distributed as follows:
- Each seller on the order is paid the remittance owed to them for their invoice(s).
- Whatever remains in the holding account for that order is paid to you as Commissions for Order.
Your commission is the residual — what's left after all sellers on the order have been paid.
Note: The amount on this line may be slightly lower than your headline commission rate multiplied by the order value. Payment processors typically deduct their fees before funds reach the MPay holding account, and any shortfall is absorbed against your commission rather than passed through to sellers. This is expected behaviour, not an error.
MPay operator payout margin on invoice (if applicable)
If you charge your sellers a markup on top of Marketplacer's payout processing fee, the margin you earn appears on this line. This line item only appears if you have configured a markup.
MPay operator payout fee on invoice (if applicable)
The fee Marketplacer charges you for processing a seller's payout. This line item only appears on invoices where Marketplacer's fee applies.
Refund for invoice amendment
When a shopper is refunded for a return or cancellation, MPay recovers the seller's portion of the refund. That recovered amount appears on your advice as a Refund for Invoice Amendment — it is the seller paying you back for the payout you already funded.
Collection fee for deposit (if applicable)
You may be charged a collection fee each time you deposit funds into your MPay escrow account, depending on the deposit method. This fee applies to certain payment types only — for example, BPay or SWIFT transfers. Local bank transfers typically do not incur a collection fee. Your applicable deposit methods are agreed with Marketplacer before you commence payouts with MPay.
Reading a seller's remittance advice
When you view a seller's remittance advice, you'll see the following MPay-related fields:
Payout processing fee for invoice
This is the total fee the seller pays for the payout of that invoice. It includes Marketplacer's MPay processing fee and any markup you've configured. The seller sees a single combined figure — they do not see the split between Marketplacer's portion and your markup. Your markup, if any, flows back to you as MPay operator payout margin on invoice on your operator remittance advice.
MPay payment ID
The unique ID of the MPay payout. Sellers should reference this ID when raising any payout-related support query.
Tip: When a seller asks about a fee or a specific payout, the MPay payment ID or the remittance advice number is the fastest way to locate the transaction in your Remittance report.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my Commissions for order line lower than the headline commission I expected?
Your commission is the residual left in the holding account after all seller remittances on the order are paid. If your payment processor deducted fees before depositing into MPay, those fees are absorbed against your share. This ensures sellers are always paid the full remittance they're owed.
Why did my operator commission land before my sellers were paid?
Your Commissions for Order moves once deposit reconciliation is complete. Each seller's remittance moves once deposit reconciliation is complete and the invoice is ready for remittance — for example, fulfilled and past any return window. The two events happen on different timelines by design.
Why don't I see an MPay operator payout margin on invoice line on my advice?
This line item only appears if you've configured an operator markup on top of Marketplacer's payout processing fee. If no markup is configured, the line does not appear.
Why don't I see a collection fee for deposit on some deposits?
Collection fees only apply to specific deposit methods, for example BPay or SWIFT. Deposits made via local bank transfer typically do not incur this fee.
Fees for invoices don't appear in the same remittance advice — is this an error?
MPay workers run hourly, covering reconciliation of funds, deposit verification, and fee and payout confirmation updates. A processing delay may cause payment processing fees to appear on a later remittance advice.
My seller is asking why their payout is lower than expected — what should I check?
Look at the seller's remittance advice and check the Payout processing fee for Invoice. This is the combined Marketplacer fee and your markup. If the fee looks high, confirm with your finance team whether a markup is configured and at what rate.
A seller can't locate a payout in their bank account — what should I do?
Ask the seller for the MPay payment ID shown on their remittance advice. Use that ID to look up the payout in your Airwallex account to check the payout status, destination account, and any failure reasons. If the payout has failed, contact the seller to verify their payout details and work with Marketplacer Support to re-initiate.
