When utilizing APIs or third-party integrations for product management in Marketplacer, employing the bulk mapping tool is essential to ensure accurate product data synchronization between your system and Marketplacer.
Mapping ensures that your supplied product information aligns with the marketplace's required structure for successful display on the operator's site, making the product sellable.
Note: You can configure mapping through the Marketplacer API, which may require technical support for setup. This topic provides guidance on mapping via the Seller Portal.
Before mapping
Prior to mapping, consult the marketplace operator to understand their product taxonomy. Successful mapping depends on the effective synchronization of high-quality, accurate product data from the origin system to Marketplacer.
How bulk mapping works
The bulk mapping tool lets you map imported product values to the equivalent categories, brands, variants, and features defined in the marketplace. You only need to do this once for each product, unless the marketplace operator changes their product structure in the future.
For example, if you have a category of products called ‘console tables’ and these are called ‘occasional tables’ in the marketplace, you can link these so that all future product imports and syncs of console tables are automatically and correctly categorized as ‘occasional tables’.
The same principle applies if there is a different language used for the same product — for example ‘bicycles’ and ‘bikes’ — and extends to brands, features, and variants.
Note: The mapping tool can only be used to map previously unmapped products. Once a product is mapped, any subsequent updates will not affect previously mapped items. Once a product has been mapped, that mapping needs to be adjusted directly on the product. The reason for this is that changes to the mapping (For example, changing a category) can delist a product that is online.
How to map products in the Seller Portal
Add a product mapping
You can only map products that are waiting to be mapped. This means you need to have run an import or a sync of products for the unmapped product information to appear.
- Go to Products > Mapping.
- Select one of the tabs: Brand, Category, or Option Value. Items that need to be mapped appear in a list.
- For each line item, select an option in the Map To… column and then select Confirm.
- For Brand and Category, if the recommended mapping is incorrect, click Edit and enter your preferred mapping in the Map to… field.
- If no suitable mapping options are available, check the Skip box and then select Confirm. You should check the product mapping location with the marketplace operator.
- When successfully mapped, the Map To… field will change to the field it is mapped to. Should you make a mistake, select Re-map to unmap the product.
- Continue through tabs until everything is mapped.
Note:
- For Brand and Category, products matching 95% or more of the mapping criteria will be automatically mapped to the corresponding brand or category. Otherwise, the recommended mapping will be displayed.
- Auto mapping only applies to new products added after activation and won't affect existing mappings.
- Tick the Mapped box to see brands or categories automatically mapped, indicated by a check in the Auto-mapped column.
Change a product mapping
- Go to Products > Mapping.
- Select one of the tabs: Brand, Category, or Option Value.
- Check the Mapped box next to the filter field to view existing mappings.
- Locate the relevant source value, and select Re-map.
- Click Continue in the warning window.
Note: Re-mapping will let you edit the value, but you will lose the original mapping permanently. - Select the correct option in the Map To… column and then select Confirm.
- When successfully mapped, the Map To… field will change to the field it is mapped to. Should you make a mistake, select Re-map to unmap the product.
