If your marketplace operator has enabled wholesale for your account, you can offer selected products at wholesale prices. This article explains how to configure wholesale pricing at the variant level and outlines key rules to ensure proper document generation and order behavior.
Add wholesale pricing to a product
- In the Seller portal, go to Products > Manage Products.
- Click View product at the far right of the product you want to update.
- Under the Pricing tab, enter a value in the Wholesale Item Price (Ex Tax) field.
- For each applicable variant, check the Variant is wholesale box.
Only variants marked as wholesale will be treated as wholesale items during order processing. This affects the type of invoice and remittance document generated. If the variant is not marked as wholesale, the system will treat it as a retail item even if your seller account is wholesale-enabled.
Notes:
- Marking a variant as wholesale sets its remittance value to the wholesale price instead of using commission, and requires a positive wholesale price. Once your operator approves the product, the Wholesale Item Price (Ex Tax) field becomes read-only and you won't be able to edit it after that point.
- If your operator passes wholesale price values through the API when creating an order, that order is treated as wholesale regardless of whether the variant itself is marked as wholesale.
Wholesale pricing and financial documents
When a product variant is marked as wholesale and your account has wholesale enabled, Marketplacer will generate:
- A wholesale-specific tax invoice
- A remittance document showing wholesale pricing and tax
If these conditions are not met, standard retail documents will be generated instead.
Check with your operator if you need confirmation that wholesale document generation is active for your account.
Wholesale pricing and MConnect sync
If your store is connected to Shopify through MConnect, orders sent to Shopify carry your wholesale price, not the consumer-paid price.
Note: Wholesale prices don't sync inbound from Shopify. Product syncs from Shopify won't overwrite your vetted wholesale price, but you still need to enter and update the wholesale price directly in Marketplacer.
Wholesale and retail order restrictions
Marketplacer supports orders that mix wholesale and retail items from your store. If a customer checks out with a mix of wholesale and retail variants from the same seller, the order splits into two invoices.
Customers can also place wholesale and retail orders across multiple sellers. Each seller's order is treated separately and generates its own invoice.
