Golden Products and Variants can be automatically created or linked when seller variants meet specific conditions. These processes help ensure product consistency across your marketplace without requiring manual input from operators.
Note
This logic depends on the following settings:
- Automatically create Golden Product and Variant records from new variants with unique barcodes
- Automatically link matching variants to Golden Products and Variants
To learn how linking behavior changes depending on the advert and variant setup, refer to Golden Record linking behavior: advert and variant scenarios.
Auto-create trigger logic
A Golden Record (product and variant) is automatically created when:
- A variant is created, updated, or its advert is approved in vetting
- The variant’s barcode does not match any existing Golden Variant in the Central Product Database (CPD)
- The product and variant are valid and meet catalog rules
- (If vetting is enabled) the product is approved in vetting
Multiple variant handling
If a seller creates multiple variants in one advert:
- If any variant has a matching barcode with an existing Golden Variant, all variants will be created as new Golden Variants under that Golden Product.
- If no variant matches by barcode and there is no exact match (by name, brand, and category) in the CPD, a new Golden Product and its variants will be created.
Auto-link triggers
A seller variant is automatically linked to an existing Golden Product/Variant when:
- The variant has a barcode that matches a Golden Variant in the CPD
- The product and variant are valid and meet catalog rules
- (If vetting is enabled) the variant must belong to a product approved in vetting
Variant updates that trigger auto-create or auto-link
Only updates to the following fields will trigger the auto-create or auto-link logic:
- Variant option values
- Tax code
- Item tax rate
- Shipping profile ID
- Shipping parcel (weight and dimensions)
- Recommended retail price
- Barcode
- SKU
- Comparative units (measure type, item size, item unit, comparable size, comparable unit)
- TGA fields (e.g., warnings, ingredients, directions, allergen info, nutrition info)
