Use a barcode (EAN, UPC, or GTIN) to match an existing product in the Central Product Database (CPD). If a match is found, Marketplacer pulls in product and variant details so you can focus on seller-specific info like price, stock, and shipping.
Before you start
What you need
- A valid barcode for each variant (EAN, UPC, or GTIN).
- Any seller-specific details you want to publish, such as:
- Price.
- Stock or inventory settings.
- Shipping settings.
- Seller-only variant options (if your marketplace uses them).
What barcode matching does
- If the barcode matches a Golden Record in CPD, Marketplacer auto-fills product and variant details from CPD.
- Your listing still needs seller-specific details before it can be published.
Note: Product content may be reused across the marketplace when it comes from CPD.
How to add a product using a barcode
- Go to Seller Portal.
- Go to Products > Add Products.
- Select the Get started button in the Manually create products box.
- Enter the barcode in the Enter a barcode field.
- Click Search. If a match is found, you’ll see the matched product information appear.
- Click Use this product’s information. This will fill up all the attributes with the information from the Golden Record.
- Add any remaining variants by barcode.
- Review the auto-filled details.
- Fill in the remaining detail or edit the info to fit your own specifications.
- Click Submit.

What gets filled in automatically
When a barcode match is found, Marketplacer fills in product and variant details from CPD, such as:
- Product name and description.
- Brand.
- Images.
- Variant attributes (for example size or colour).
- Variant identifiers.
Your marketplace may still allow edits to some of these fields. If you cannot edit a field, it is usually controlled by CPD.
What you still need to provide
Even with a match, you normally still need to provide seller-specific details, such as:
- Price (and sale price, if used).
- Stock or inventory quantities.
- Shipping settings.
- Any seller-only attributes.
- SKU (from the golden record, if available).
If no match is found
If the barcode does not match a Golden Record, you have a few options depending on what your marketplace supports:
- Check the barcode and try again. Confirm you used the correct format (EAN/UPC/GTIN) and entered all digits.
- Try another variant barcode for the same product. Sometimes one variant is in CPD while another is not.
- Create the product without matching. Use your marketplace’s standard product creation flow and enter product details manually.
- Contact the marketplace operator (if needed). If you believe the product should exist in CPD, your operator may be able to advise on next steps.
Find matched and unmatched products
After you create products using barcodes, you can search for them in Manage products.
- Go to Products > Manage Products.
- Select Show filters.
-
Enter the barcode in the Barcode field.
Note: You can search multiple barcodes. These barcodes should be comma- or space-separated. - Click Search.
If your marketplace uses product vetting, matched products may still appear in a review state until approved.
Troubleshooting
The barcode is rejected
- Check that you entered a valid EAN, UPC, or GTIN.
- Remove spaces and special characters.
- Confirm you are entering the variant barcode, not a carton or internal warehouse code.
The barcode matches the wrong product
- Stop before publishing.
- Double-check you used the correct variant barcode.
- If the match is still incorrect, create the product without matching and notify your operator.
I matched successfully but can’t publish
- You may still need to complete seller-specific required fields, such as price or shipping.
- Your marketplace may require product vetting before the listing can go live.
Some details are locked and I can’t edit them
- Those fields are likely coming from CPD.
- Update what you can in seller-specific fields, then contact your operator if the CPD data is incorrect.
FAQ
Does barcode matching create a Golden Record
Not necessarily. Barcode matching uses existing CPD data when a match exists. Whether new data is added to CPD depends on your marketplace configuration.
Is barcode matching available for bulk uploads?
Some marketplaces support barcode matching through spreadsheet imports as well as the Seller Portal UI. If you use spreadsheets, see:
