When a seller variant is linked to a Golden Variant, it may affect how the overall advert is linked to a Golden Product. This article outlines the linking behavior in different scenarios, especially when variants are updated or approved in vetting.
What triggers advert or variant linking?
Linking behavior may be triggered when:
- A variant is created
- A variant is updated (specific fields only)
- A variant’s advert is approved in vetting
If a barcode match is found, the variant is linked to the matching Golden Variant. This may also cause the advert to link to a different Golden Product depending on the case.
Scenario 1: Advert already linked to a Golden Product
The variant is already linked to a Golden Variant, and the advert is linked to that variant’s Golden Product.
Linking behavior
Advert structure | What happens |
1 variant |
Variant is re-linked to the new Golden Variant, and the advert is linked to the new Golden Product |
2 variants |
Variant is re-linked, but the advert remains with the original Golden Product |
2 variants, one already linked to the new Golden Product | Advert is linked to the new Golden Product |
2 variants, one not linked to anything | Advert is linked to the new Golden Product |
Multiple variants | Advert is not linked to the new Golden Product until all but one variant are either linked to the new product or unlinked |
Scenario 2: Advert not previously linked to a Golden Product
The variant is linked to a Golden Variant, but the advert was not yet linked to a Golden Product.
Linking behavior
The variant is linked to the new Golden Variant, and the advert is always linked to the new Golden Product, regardless of other variant links.
Notes:
- Linking is based primarily on barcode matching
- Only changes to specific fields (e.g. barcode, RRP, TGA fields, etc.) will trigger a variant update that can cause linking behavior
- If vetting is enabled, linking only occurs after the advert is approved
