The source is the seller advert that provides data for a Golden Record. It acts as the primary reference point for the Golden Product’s details.
Important note
The source is only assigned if the following settings are enabled in the Operator portal:
- Enable propagation of seller updates to Golden Records
- Enable Golden Record data source fallback (optional)
If these settings are disabled, no source is set, and seller updates will not affect Golden Records. Learn more.
How the source is assigned and managed
The source is assigned automatically to the original (first) advert or variant that triggers the creation of the Golden Record. Updates to the original source advert update the Golden Record.
If the original source advert is deleted, the Golden Record will have no source unless:
- The Enable Golden Record data source fallback (optional) is enabled
- There is at least one other advert
If these conditions are met, the system assigns the second-oldest advert as the new source.
Change the source manually
Operators can override the source advert and variant for a Golden Product:
- Sign in to the operator portal.
- Go to Adverts > Central Product Database.
- Click Search to view all products or narrow down your search using filters.
- Click the edit pencil icon at the far right of the product’s row.
- In the edit page, scroll down to the Golden Product Variants section.
- Click the link icon.
- Select the new source seller and click the three-dot menu.
- Click Set as data source.
- Click Set in the popup.
- Select Save changes.
This will update the Golden Record’s reference and enable future propagation from the newly selected source (if propagation is enabled).
Note: Use this manual override if
- You want to control which seller's content is shown in the record.
- The current source advert is outdated or contains incomplete info.
- You’ve disabled fallback and want to assign a new source manually.
