A user-defined catalog transformation lets you write your own plain-English instructions to clean up a product title or description, alongside the built-in preset transformations.
Before you begin
User-defined catalog transformations are available as a beta to select operators. Contact your Marketplacer representative for more information; access is subject to screening and isn't guaranteed.
Each attribute (Product Title or Product Description) can have one user-defined transformation, holding an ordered list of up to 25 instructions.
Processing is not instant. Changes are processed in batches, at predetermined intervals.
Workflow overview
- Open the rule builder for the field you want to transform.
- Describe the rule and write your instructions, in the order you want them applied.
- Test the rule against a sample attribute value (product title or product description).
- Resolve any safety or conflict flags.
- Accept the acknowledgement and save your rule.
Write your instructions
- In the Operator Portal, go to ADVERTS > Catalog Rules.
- Select the My rules tab.
- Click Define an AI rule.
- Select the attribute you want to transform: Product Title or Product Description.
- In Rule name, give the rule a short, descriptive name.
- In Description, summarize what the rule does in plain language.
- Under Instructions, add each instruction on its own line, focused on one change at a time. Instructions run in the order you list them.
- To reorder an instruction, click its number and drag the row to a new position.
Notes:
- Custom instructions always run before any preset transformations enabled on the same field.
- Instructions that are hateful, insulting, sexual in nature, or that promote violence or misconduct are blocked by content safety filters.
Test your rule
- In the Test prompt section, click Run test to see how your instructions perform on a sample input.
- Review the composed prompt and result before saving.
Tip: Testing doesn't save your rule. You can test as many times as you like before committing.
Resolve safety check flags
Each instruction is checked automatically when you save or test your rule. If an instruction is blocked, the row is highlighted and a message explains that it may conflict with safety guidelines.
Note: A blocked instruction can't be saved or tested until you edit or remove it.
Conflicts with preset transformations
If a user-defined instruction overlaps with or contradicts what a preset transformation already does on the same field, this is intended to trigger a conflict warning with options to remove the instruction, turn off the conflicting preset, or proceed anyway.
Note: After running a test, check above the Instructions field for a conflict warning card before saving.
Accept the acknowledgement and save
- Read the Your responsibility as the rule owner notice.
- Tick the acknowledgement checkbox.
- Click Define AI rule.
Reorder or edit instructions later
Go to ADVERTS > Catalog Rules > My rules. Find your user-defined transformation rule:
- To reorder instructions, click an instruction's number and drag it to a new position.
- To edit an instruction, click into it and update the text.
- To pause the rule without deleting it, use the toggle in its row.
- To remove the rule permanently, click the delete icon.
