Set a seller default shipping profile so your variants without a shipping profile use the profile you choose and still show delivery options at checkout. Your default overrides the marketplace default shipping profile for your products.
Note: Default shipping profiles are only available if your marketplace operator has turned them on. Contact your operator if you don't see the options described in this article.
Shipping profile precedence
Each of your variants uses the first of these that exists:
- The shipping profile saved on the variant
- Your seller default shipping profile
- The marketplace default shipping profile
A shipping profile you save on a variant always takes priority over any default. Only your marketplace operator can set the marketplace default.
Workflow overview
- Check which default your products follow.
- Set your seller default shipping profile.
- Check the default on your product variants.
- (Optional) Change your default.
- (Optional) Clear your default.
Check which default your products follow
- In the Seller Portal, go to Shipping > Shipping Rules.
- Click the Shipping Profiles tab.
If you haven't set your own default, the tab shows Following the marketplace default: [profile name]. If the marketplace has no default either, it shows No default shipping profile is set. If you have set your own default, that profile displays a Default badge.
Set your seller default shipping profile
- On the Shipping Profiles tab, click Set default (or Change default if you already have a default).
- Select the shipping profile you want to use as your default.
- Click Set default. The Default shipping profile confirmation modal appears.
- Click Ok. Your chosen profile displays a Default badge.
Every one of your variants with no shipping profile saved now uses your default.
Note: A default shipping profile only produces delivery options at checkout if a shipping rule references it. If buyers don't see delivery options, check with your operator. If you use your own shipping rules, make sure one references your default.
Check the default on your product variants
When a variant has no shipping profile saved, its Shipping profile field shows the default that applies, with (Default) added to the profile name.
New products, and new variants added with Create new variant, start with the default already selected and shown with (Default). If you don't want the default, select a different profile or None.
This can be your seller default or the marketplace default.
- In the Seller Portal, go to Products > Manage Products.
- Find the product and click the product name.
- Click the Variants tab.
- Click the edit icon next to the variant.
- To use a different shipping profile for this variant, select it in the Shipping profile dropdown.
- Click Save variant.
Note: Saving a variant saves the profile shown in the field onto it, including a default. The variant keeps that profile even if your default or the marketplace default changes later. If a catalog rule is holding the product for a missing shipping profile, saving the product releases it.
Tip: The (Default) label doesn't show which default applies, or whether the profile is saved on the variant or inherited. To check which default applies, go to the Shipping Profiles tab. If it shows Following the marketplace default: [profile name], the marketplace default applies; otherwise, your own default does.
Change your default
- In the Seller Portal, go to Shipping > Shipping Rules.
- Click the Shipping Profiles tab.
- On the Shipping Profiles tab, click Change default.
- Select the new shipping profile.
- Click Set default.
- In the confirmation modal, click Ok.
The change applies immediately to every variant that inherits your default. Variants with a saved profile keep it, including variants saved while your previous default applied.
Clear your default
Clear your default to return to following the marketplace default shipping profile.
- In the Seller Portal, go to Shipping > Shipping Rules.
- Click the Shipping Profiles tab.
- Click Use marketplace default.
Your default is cleared immediately, and the tab shows Following the marketplace default: [profile name]. If the marketplace has no default, it shows No default shipping profile is set.
Note: Your operator can also set or clear your default shipping profile on your behalf.
