Syncing cancellations or refunds from Shopify to Marketplacer allows a seller to action an order directly in their Shopify store, which will then create a refund request for the marketplace operator to action. A common example of this is where sellers receive orders for items they cannot dispatch, whether it be out of stock or no longer for sale.
To sync cancellations and refunds from Shopify to Marketplacer, MConnect uses Shopify webhooks.
How cancellation sync works
In Shopify, sellers can cancel orders in two ways:
- Full cancellations are done from the order detail page by selecting More actions > Cancel order
- Partial cancellations involve clicking Restock and selecting the quantity of items to restock.
MConnect listens for webhook events triggered by these actions. When a cancellation is detected, it checks if the order was originally synced through MConnect. If it was, MConnect creates a refund request in Marketplacer.
The operator must then complete the refund request in Marketplacer. Once it's completed, the result (either Refunded or Denied) is sent back to Shopify and added as a note on the order.
