Marketplacer supports wholesale selling for marketplaces that operate on a B2B model or offer cost-based pricing. This article provides an overview of how wholesale works, what settings are required, and how it impacts documents, reporting, and seller setup.
Wholesale can run alongside standard commission selling. Hybrid sellers can operate both models from a single seller portal, with a clear line between wholesale and commission products and orders.
Enabling wholesale in Marketplacer involves coordinated setup across:
- Seller-level settings
- Product-level tagging
- Document generation preferences
- Export/report configuration
- API integrations (if used)
Once configured, wholesale enables sellers to transact with business buyers using compliant documentation and structured pricing, while giving operators the flexibility to manage features and behavior per seller.

What is wholesale in Marketplacer?
Wholesale functionality allows sellers to offer products at wholesale rates, separate from retail pricing. When enabled, the system supports:
- Wholesale-specific pricing and product tagging
- Generation of wholesale invoices and remittance documents
- Reporting and export of wholesale order data
- Tax calculation aligned with wholesale transactions
- Seller-level control over wholesale features
Wholesale must be explicitly enabled per seller and configured correctly to activate these features.
Key components of wholesale
Seller configuration
Operators can enable wholesale on a seller-by-seller basis using dedicated settings. This determines whether a seller operates in full wholesale mode (with documents and tax) or in reporting-only mode (for internal data use only). Operators also have more control over how often wholesale prices can be changed by sellers. If configured, once a wholesale-tagged product is approved, only the operator can edit its wholesale price. The seller loses edit access at that point.

Product-level control
Wholesale documents are only triggered when specific product variants are marked as wholesale. This gives sellers flexibility to offer both retail and wholesale products, while ensuring accurate processing and compliance. See how sellers manage wholesale product variants.
API-driven wholesale orders
Operators can pass wholesale price values through the API when creating an order, using the wholesaleTotalPrice fields on the orderCreate mutation. When these values are passed, the order is treated as wholesale regardless of whether the product variant itself is marked as wholesale.
Document generation and exports
Marketplacer can generate wholesale versions of tax invoices and remittance PDFs. Operators also have control over which financial documents are generated per seller, regardless of wholesale use. Reporting and export files will reflect wholesale data only when enabled. Learn more at anage wholesale documents and exports.
Order rules
To ensure clean financial logic, Marketplacer supports a single order containing mixed wholesale and retail items from the same seller. The order splits into two separate invoices. Cross-seller mixed orders (e.g., wholesale from Seller A and retail from Seller B) are supported. Set up pricing rules and order handling.
Tax handling
Tax for wholesale orders follows the same structure as retail orders. It can be calculated or overridden at several levels:
- Marketplace-level settings
- Country and region-specific tax rules
- Category overrides
- Advert and variant-level overrides
- GST registration status for the seller
Operators should confirm that tax logic is aligned with their financial and compliance requirements when enabling wholesale for sellers.
