When uploading ads to the Marketplacer platform using the 'Bulk advert upload' tool, you may receive errors under specific circumstances.
The following are common errors:
-
"advert_errors"=>["Taxon must be filled in"]}
-
"advert_errors"=>["Brand must be filled in"]}
First, check to confirm that the taxon/brand column contains a valid taxon/brand - this needs to match what is in your marketplace categorization settings perfectly. If you notice that there are unusual characters in these fields simply export and import the adverts in Excel format using the following steps:
- Navigate to Member Database > [name of retailer] > Log into seller portal (use this guide if you are not accessing the seller portal via Admin).
- Navigate to Bulk advert upload.
- Select Excel as the format and proceed to download your ads or template.
- Once downloaded you can edit the file in Excel. Make sure to save and upload the file in the default XLSX format.
The error is caused by working with CSV files in Excel. When your data includes accented characters (e.g. é, ü, ö, etc...) and you open, make edits and save the CSV using Excel - the accented characters are not always preserved correctly. As a result, when the CSV is uploaded to Marketplacer, the values are not valid. For those interested, this article effectively describes why importing CSV files to Excel is not good practice.
